Crafted to Last. Designed to Inspire.

At Wood Matters Studio, we believe functional everyday objects should double as works of art. We specialize in blending distinct domestic and exotic hardwood species into heirloom-quality pieces—from end-grain and edge-grain cutting boards, charcuterie spreads, and custom live edge sunglass displays to bespoke kitchen dining tables.

Whether you are selecting from our core studio collection or commissioning a custom build tailored to your space, every cut, joint, and finish is executed with uncompromising attention to detail.

The Art of the Blend

The heart of our work lies in the harmony of contrast. We hand-select and pair raw lumber not only for structural durability, but for the visual dialogue between grain patterns, natural tones, and density. When individual timbers come together, the final piece becomes something far greater than the sum of its parts.

Our Palette of Timbers

We source premium woods from sustainable domestic forests and responsible global origins, celebrating what makes each species singular:

  • Hard Maple (North America): Clean, luminous, and exceptionally dense; the industry standard for culinary prep surfaces thanks to its tight, closed grain.

  • American Black Walnut (North America): Prized for its deep chocolate tones and fluid grain movement; provides anchor and sophistication.

  • Northern White Oak (North America): Renowned for legendary tensile strength and prominent medullary rays that add rich structural texture.

  • Black Cherry (Eastern North America): A smooth, warm hardwood that naturally patinas into a deeper, richer amber with exposure to light.

  • Padauk (Central & West Africa): Celebrated for its vivid, fiery coral-red hue and exceptional stability in precision multi-species joinery.

  • Purpleheart (Central & South America): A dense, striking timber that oxidizes naturally into an unmistakable royal purple accent.

  • Bubinga (Equatorial Africa): Often called African Rosewood, revered for its immense density, durability, and intricate rose-and-burgundy figure.
